Roos' A Grade goes through the season unbeaten

2026 was another strong year for Kangaroo Flat FNC on the netball court headlined by their star-studded A Grade team that completed their second consecutive undefeated season, claiming the 2026 A-Grade Premiership.

After winning all 16 home-and-away games the Roos defeated Gisborne 51–37 in the second semi-final before winning the Grand Final with a 64–54 grand final win over Sandhurst.

While the Kangaroo Flat A-Grade was the only team to score a Premiership, it was a big year across the club's senior netball with A Reserve and B Reserve both finishing on top of the ladder and both reached grand finals before losing narrowly to South Bendigo (40–42) and Gisborne (38–42).

Kangaroo Flat’s B Grade finished fourth and won two finals before losing the preliminary final to Strathfieldsaye by a single goal, 34–35.

The junior Roos failed to make finals in the 17 & Under & 15 & Under netball competition.

On the football field, Roos Reserves were the talk of the club, finishing in fifth position with a 8–8 record. The team would play an elimination final, losing to Strathfieldsaye narrowly by 12 points.

Kangaroo Flat’s Seniors continued to show internal growth after a lean few year, winning three games, including a history making 36-point victory against Golden Square at Wade Street in round 15. The win was the club’s first win over Golden Square in over 25 years and marked a clear highlight of their 2026 season with raucous scenes erupting from the Kangaroo Flat faithful.

Their Under 18s won three matches, including a 19-point home win over Eaglehawk in round 12.

League Best & Fairest night was again a busy night for Roos netballers with plenty of winners including the 2026 Betty Thompson Medalist, Ruby Barkmeyer who put together a magnificently consistent season for the Green & White storming away to win by 9 votes over 2025 winner, Shae Clifford.

Kangaroo Flat A-Reserve star, Ella Wicks made it back-to-back Holborn Medals claiming the win for the second straight year in dominant fashion.

The Roos also had a quinella in the B-Reserve Medal with Meg Kelly narrowly defeating her teammate and fellow shooter Sophie Ingram for the 2026 B-Reserve Medal.

Up & coming 17 & Under goaler, Peyton Chambers finished runner-up in the Sing Medal count and was also named as a finalist in the 2026 Bart n Print Netball Rising Star.

Chambers and her teammate, Alexis Coates represented the BFNL in our 17 & Under Representative Team.

The BFNL Open Netball Rep Team had strong Kangaroo Flat representation with A-Grade coach Jayden Cowling (Assistant Coach), Chelsea Sartori (Captain), Ruby Barkmeyer (Vice-Captain), Ash Ryan and Abbey Ryan all putting on the Blue & Gold for the match against the Ovens & Murray.

The Roos were represented in Interleague Football too with Assistant Senior Coach, Jason Stevens again leading the Under 18 squad while Brayden Franken was picked to play Under 18s while star ruckman, Angus Macpherson played Senior Interleague.
