A YOUNG Gisborne line-up played outstanding netball to win Saturday’s second round clash at Castlemaine in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football Netball League’s A-grade competition.

The Tarryn Rymer-coached Gisborne headed to Camp Reserve for a showdown between two clubs who met in last season’s first semi-final at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

On that day it was Gisborne which won and the red, white and blue did so again.

A 43-35 victory has meant Gisborne is one of just two teams to have a two-nil record.

Best for Gisborne were Claudia Mawson and Zoe Davies as young gun Tori Skrijel continues to impress in attack.

Magpies’ co-coaches Fiona Fowler and Gary Cook said there were plenty of positives.

The play of Emma Winfield at goal attack and Jane O’Donohue as goalshooter were among the highlights.

It was a closely-fought contest at Kyneton Showgrounds where the Tigers took on Sandhurst.

The Tamara Gilchrist-coached Sandhurst took the points in a 52-41 victory.

Kangaroo Flat bounced back from a first-round defeat to score a 15-goal win against South Bendigo.

The Jayden Cowling-coached Kangaroos were on their court at Dower Park and marked a 41-26 result.

Maryborough coach Jordan Macilwain was rapt with her first win as A-grade coach after the Magpies won 60-43 on Eaglehawk’s court at Canterbury Park.

The Steph Freemantle-coached Strathfieldsaye was too strong for Golden Square.

Storm surged to a 78-29 win on its court at Triple M Park in Tannery Lane.

In next Saturday’s third round, Maryborough hosts Kangaroo Flat at Princes Park.

Sandhurst and Golden Square meet at Queen Elizabeth Oval for the Ron Best Memorial Shield day.

Gisborne will host Eaglehawk at Gardiner Reserve.

Castlemaine is at home again at Camp Reserve to take on Strathfieldsaye.

South Bendigo will be aiming to make it consecutive wins at its new home at Harry Trott Oval in Kennington when it takes on Kyneton.
