Huge test for Bloods on Gisborne’s court

A TOUGH run for South Bendigo in A-grade netball rolls on this Saturday’s 13th round of the Bendigo Bank Bendigo FNL season.

A week after playing Kangaroo Flat, South Bendigo makes its way down the Calder Highway to play Gisborne at Gardiner Reserve.

It’s another huge challenge for the Alicia McGlashan-coached Bloods as they take on the reigning premiers.

When these clubs met in round four it was the Tarryn Rymer-coached Gisborne which won 61-37 on South Bendigo’s court at Harry Trott Oval in Kennington.

It’s been an extended break for Gisborne since it beat Sandhurst by 11 goals on June 29 at Gardiner Reserve.

A rest for inter-league on July 6 was followed by Gisborne being drawn to play at Maryborough last round.

The Magpies are not fielding an A-grade team this season.

As the Bulldogs had a rest, South Bendigo took on Kangaroo Flat in the 12th round.

A highlight was Alicia McGlashan playing her 300th BFNL match.

The Bloods worked hard, but could not stop the Roos bounding away to a 23-goal win.

Kangaroo Flat will be back on its Dower Park court this Saturday to play Golden Square.

Most recent clash between the neighbours ended in a 90-35 win for the Jayden Cowling-coached Roos at Golden Square’s Fur Life Oval.

The Teigan Redwood-coached Golden Square will be determined to be a lot more competitive and take it right up to the Roos in every quarter.

The blue and gold will have gained a lot of confidence from scoring 78 goals against Castlemaine last round.

Defensive intensity will be much higher and for longer on the Roos’ court.

It’s a showdown of the birds as the Castlemaine Magpies play Eaglehawk Hawks at Camp Reserve.

Tough test for the Chloe Hughes-coached Castlemaine as it aims to bounce back from a big loss to Golden Square.

The Kylie Piercy-coached Eaglehawk played well to beat Strathfieldsaye by 13 goals last Saturday.

It’s a rest for Sandhurst in A-grade, but the maroon and blue will play Maryborough in the lower grades at Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo.

Strathfieldsaye Storm has the bye.

Standings in the Bendigo FNL A-grade netball competition:

Kangaroo Flat 180 per cent, 28 points; Sandhurst 170, 28; Gisborne 138, 28; Strathfieldsaye 93, 20; Eaglehawk 83, 20; Golden Square 74, 12; South Bendigo 76, 8; Castlemaine 56, 4.
