2017 Michelsen & Betty Thompson Medalists

on .

Strathfieldsaye's Lachlan Sharp (18 votes) has won the 2017 Michelsen Medal defeating Golden Square skipper Jack Geary (14 Votes) in a tight medal count held at the Bendigo Club on Sunday night.

Sharp also took home the Ron Best Goal kicking Medal with 124 goals and became only the third player in BFNL history to win the Michelsen Medal and the Goal kicking medal in the same season.  The last time this occured was in 1972 when Greg Kennedy of Eaglehawk took out both awards.  Sharp has had a stellar season and could add a premiership medal to his haul when Strathfieldsaye do battle with Eaglehawk on Saturday at the QEO.

Heather Oliver (Sandhurst) made it two Betty Thompson medals when she won a thrilling count by one vote from Gisborne star Maddy Stewart who was also runner up in 2016.  Oliver has the chance also to add a premiership medal to her list of achievements when she lines up for Sandhurst against Golden Square in the A Grade Netball Grand Final on the weekend.
