ROUND 7 NETBALL REVIEW | Eaglehawk keeps heat on fight to be fifth
EAGLEHAWK kept the heat on in the fight to claim fifth place on the A-grade netball ladder in Saturday’s seventh round in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo FNL season.
The Hawks met the Castlemaine Magpies in the Indigenous Round match at C & M Oval in Eaglehawk’s Canterbury Park.
An Eaglehawk team coached by Janelle Hobbs was determined to net its second win of the season.
The Two Blues had not claimed premiership points since a 72-39 victory against Golden Square at Canterbury Park in round two.
Since that triumph the Hawks had been defeated by Kangaroo Flat, South Bendigo, Strathfieldsaye, and Gisborne.
Eaglehawk controlled most of the play on its way to a 56-33 win against the Vanessa Saunders-coached Castlemaine.
It was a high scoring match at Gourmet Pantry Oval in Wade Street where Golden Square hosted South Bendigo.
The Teigan Redwood-coached Golden Square worked hard to rack up 53 goals, but it was the Bloods who led by 15 goals at the final siren.
Was a strong performance by the Lauren Bowles-coached South Bendigo as it bounced back from a 13-goal loss to Sandhurst on Graeme Wright Memorial day on May 16 at Kennington.
Broadford felt the full wrath of Gisborne’s attacking power on the Kangaroos’ court at Harley Hammond Reserve.
The Jaimie Hooper-coached Broadford was on the end of a Gisborne onslaught.
The team in red, white and blue charged to an 89-13 victory.
The Tarryn Rymer-coached Gisborne is second in the premiership race.
Indigenous Round was completed on Sunday when Sandhurst played Strathfieldsaye in the marquee match.
The Tamara Gilchrist-coached Sandhurst was favourite on its court at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Several of Sandhurst’s best represented the league against the Ovens and Murray at the same venue the previous Saturday.
Sandhurst marked a 68-31 victory against the Jess Mangan-coached Storm.
Kangaroo Flat had the bye.

Highlight of next Saturday’s eighth round will be Gisborne against Sandhurst at Melbourne North Truck Centre Oval in Gisborne’s Gardiner Reserve from 2.30pm.
First of the A-grade matches will be at 2pm when Castlemaine faces Broadford at The Railway Hotel in Castlemaine’s Camp Reserve.
South Bendigo takes on the unbeaten Kangaroo Flat at Harry Trott Oval in Kennington’s Neale Street from 2.30pm.
Strathfieldsaye and Golden Square clash from 2.30pm at Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye’s Tannery Lane.
