Coaching rivalry between siblings plays out in Flat

SIBLING and coaching rivalry flares up this Saturday in week two of the split 14th round in Bendigo Bank Bendigo FNL A-grade netball.

The Jayden Cowling-coached Kangaroo Flat will take on the Lauren Bowles-coached South Bendigo on the Roos’ court in Dower Park at 2.30pm.

When these teams met in Indigenous Round it was Jayden and the Roos who took honours in an 83-19 result at Kennington’s Harry Trott Oval.

The Roos are unbeaten in their quest to go one better after being runner-up to Gisborne last season.

Dower Park is where Lauren Bowles’ brilliant career began.

The talented mid-courter was a premiership winner with the Roos and was a multiple premiership-winning coach with White Hills in the Heathcote DFNL.

Bowles took on the challenge of returning to the Bendigo league as South Bendigo coach this season.

The Bloods have a win-loss tally of five-five and also drew with Eaglehawk under the Queen Elizabeth Oval lights on Anzac Day.

Latest hit-out for South Bendigo ended a 55-46 win against Golden Square in round 13 at Harry Trott Oval.

The Bloods were beaten on Golden Square’s court earlier in the season.

Saturday’s other A-grade match features Sandhurst against Eaglehawk at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

A 9-2 record has the Tamara Gilchrist-coached Sandhurst in second place.

The Indigenous Round match between Eaglehawk and Sandhurst ended in a 50-37 win for the Dragons at Canterbury Park.

Only defeats for the maroon and blue have been against Kangaroo Flat by margins of 10 and 15 goals.

Sandhurst won the 13th round clash on Gisborne’s Gardiner Reserve court by five goals.

The Jannelle Hobbs-coached Eaglehawk made certain of a finals berth when it scored a 45-41 win on Strathfieldsaye’s court in Triple M Park in the 12th round.

It’s been an extended break for the Borough which had the bye in round 13.

Week one of the split 14th round featured a 67-19 win for Gisborne on Golden Square’s court in Wade Street.

The Tarryn Rymer-coached Gisborne struck back from its loss to Sandhurst the previous round in fine style.

Was a tough afternoon for a young Golden Square team which is coached by Teigan Redwood.

It was a rest for the Jess Mangan-coached Strathfieldsaye last Saturday because Castlemaine is not fielding an A-grade team.

Storm played in all other grades on Castlemaine’s courts in Camp Reserve.
