ROUND 12 NETBALL REVIEW | Hawks fight for victory on Storm’s court

EAGLEHAWK fought on to score a four-goal victory in the A-grade netball clash on Strathfieldsaye Storm’s court on Saturday.
Round 12 in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo FNL season featured a crucial match between Storm and Eaglehawk at Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye’s Tannery Lane.
The Jess Mangan-coached Storm needed a win to keep the heat on the fourth and fifth-placed South Bendigo and Eaglehawk.
Storm and the Two Blues played out a terrific contest which went the way of the Jannele Hobbs-coached Eaglehawk, 45-41.
Top teams Kangaroo Flat and Sandhurst scored emphatic wins.
The Tamara Gilchrist-coached Sandhurst faced a spirited challenge from South Bendigo in the first quarter at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Sandhurst led 16-11 at quarter-time and then dominated the second.
As the maroon and blue poured in 22 goals it kept the Bloods to a tally of 10 goals.
By half-time the Dragons led 38-21.
Sandhurst’s slick passing across all thirds of the court was a highlight as it won the next two quarters, 15-14 and 20-15.
By the final siren the Dragons led the Lauren Bowles-coached South Bendigo, 73-50.
Kangaroo Flat’s goalscoring prowess was on show at Golden Square’s home in Wade Street.
The Jayden Cowling-coached Kangaroos brought up a 10th consecutive victory in an 84-26 result against the blue and gold.
Was a tough afternoon for the Teigan Redwood-coached Golden Square against such an experienced and skilful opponent.
It was a bye for Gisborne in A-grade, but the Bulldogs did play Castlemaine in all other grades on the Magpies’ courts in Camp Reserve.

A highlight of next Saturday’s round 13 action will be Gisborne at home against Sandhurs on the Gardiner Reserve court from 2.30pm.
Strathfieldsaye will play Kangaroo Flat at Triple M Park in Tannery Lane from 1pm.
South Bendigo returns to its court at Harry Trott Oval in Kennington’s Neale Street for a 2.30pm showdown with Golden Square.
It’s a rest for Eaglehawk in A-grade, but the Borough will play Castlemaine in all other grades at Canterbury Park.
