Confirmed regional 2026 Rule & Interpretation changes
Following the recent AFL announcement regarding a series of rule and interpretation updates for season 2026, AFL Central Victoria has completed consultation with key stakeholders and can now confirm its position for the upcoming season. See below PDF for an overview.
For 2026, AFL Central Victoria will adopt a measured and minimal change approach to those rules requiring regional consideration.
This approach allows our region to:
- Assess the evolution and practical impact of the more significant changes at the elite level
- Provide clarity, certainty, and regional consistency ahead of the commencement of all 2026 community seasons
- Support a gradual, well-managed transition for community clubs, leagues, umpires, and volunteers
Our priority is stability and consistency across all AFL Central Victoria competitions in 2026, while positioning the region to consider further alignment from the 2027 season where appropriate.
An information sheet clearly outlining the relevant changes for 2026 is attached. We encourage all clubs and leagues to review the document carefully and share all relevant information broadly.
Further educational resources are currently being developed and will be distributed in the coming weeks. As recently communicated, the Bendigo Umpires Association also remains committed to supporting clubs with education sessions upon request.
