The retention and recruitment of umpires is one of the most important issues facing community football across Victoria.
It's simple, without umpires we don't have our great game.
The Bendigo Umpires Association is launching its 2025 recruiting campaign by holding a come'n'try night through the AFL Umpire Roadshow on Thursday, February 27, at Weeroona Oval.
Two AFL umpires will be in attendance to take a coaching session with new and current BUA members.
The BUA is one of the biggest umpiring groups in regional Victoria, officiating matches in the Bendigo, Heathcote District, Loddon Valley, North Central, Central Victoria Women and Bendigo Junior leagues.
The BUA caters for field, boundary and goal umpires of all ages and is keen to attract new members in all three disciplines for the 2025 season.
Former footballers, who would love to stay involved with the game, are encouraged to get involved with the BUA.
You don't need to have played football to become an umpire. The BUA is a family-friendly club that welcomes people of all backgrounds.
Much like the boom in female participation in football, the number of female umpires across Australia continues to grow.
The BUA has a proud history of developing female field, boundary and goal umpires and the coaching staff is ready to guide the next wave of umpires through the system.
For anyone who has thought about taking up umpiring, the AFL Umpire Roadshow is the perfect first step.
Umpiring is fun, it's a great way to stay fit, you earn money and, most importantly, you'll make some friends for life.
The come'n'try night runs from 6pm-7pm on February 27.
