Storm's Win a Huge Plus for Maryborough
STRATHFIELDSAYE Storm’s upset win against Golden Square meant Maryborough was also a big winner in Saturday’s 16th round of the Bendigo Football Netball League’s A-grade netball season.
Storm’s first victory of the 2018 campaign meant Golden Square slipped to the sixth rung and Maryborough moved to fifth without having to take to the court.
An inspired Strathfieldsaye capped its best performance of the season as it won 36-31 at Tannery Lane.
The top two going into the round, Sandhurst and Eaglehawk played out a highly-skilled match at Canterbury Park.
Despite the cool conditions there were many great passages of play.
Defeated just once this season, Sandhurst again showed why it’s the team to beat in a 49-45 result.
Kangaroo Flat was too slick for South Bendigo at Dower Park.
The Kangaroos achieved a 48-28 victory and will be back at home for next Saturday’s match against Eaglehawk.
Gisborne’s A-grade team took a break as it was drawn to play Castlemaine, and the same applied for Maryborough against Kyneton.
The battle for the fifth rung rages on.
In the 17th round, Maryborough is at home to Sandhurst on the Princes Park, and Golden Square faces Gisborne at Wade Street.
Strathfieldsaye will aim for consecutive wins when it takes on South Bendigo at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Play for Castlemaine’s and Kyneton’s lower grades will be at Camp Reserve when the Magpies host the Tigers.
Main game in the 18th round on August 25 will be at Eaglehawk when the Two Blues face Maryborough.
Gisborne plays South Bendigo at Gardiner Reserve; and Strathfieldsaye takes on Kangaroo Flat at Tannery Lane.
There will be no matches for Golden Square’s or Sandhurst’s A-grade teams as they are drawn to play Kyneton and Castlemaine respectively.
