2020 BFNL Inter League coaches announced
AS 2020 Inter League preparations continue to ramp up, the Bendigo FNL have confirmed the coaches that will lead our Senior and Under 18 football sides against Goldfields rivals Ballarat in May.
The Bendigo Football Netball League can today confirm that Darryl Wilson will again lead the Workforce XS Bendigo FNL Senior Football Inter League team for 2020. In a blockbuster match-up, the Bendigo Football Netball League will reignite hostilities with arch-rivals Ballarat, travelling to MARS Stadium for a May 2nd clash.
After leading the senior team to a resounding 99-point victory over AFL Outer East in 2019, the experienced Wilson knows exactly what is required to deliver success and bragging rights against our Goldfields rivals.
With one of the more impressive coaching records in local football, Wilson brings to the table a wealth of knowledge and experience. A 3-time premiership coach with Colbinabbin, Wilson also had stints with the Bendigo Bombers reserves and Kangaroo Flat before taking the reins as the Senior coach of Strathfieldsaye in 2011. During his 7-year tenure at the Storm, who was still in its infancy, he had a major hand in developing a senior powerhouse within the BFNL, leading the side to Runners Up in 2013, before back-to-back premierships in 2014-15 then celebrating the ultimate success again in 2017.
In a major boost for the club, Wilson has this season returned to the Storm in a senior co-coaching position alongside Strathfieldsaye veteran Shannon Geary, as the duo replace outgoing Premiership coach Troy Coates.
Consistency will be a major pillar of the Bendigo FNL push towards a clean sweep of victories on the football oval as the League can also today confirm the re-appointment of Jason Stevens for the 2020 Under 18 representative side. No stranger to BFNL or Inter League coaching duties, Stevens will again lead the brightest local talent in the League whilst aiming to replicate the impressive 2019 result, a hard-fought 10-point victory against AFL Outer East. Coming from 4th position at the end of the home and away season, a giant killing and drought-breaking Premiership to the Kangaroo Flat Under 18 side in 2019 capped off a stellar season for the outgoing Kangaroos coach. The League is delighted at the appointment of Stevens to again lead and assist in the development of the BFNL’s promising young stars.
BFNL Manager, Cameron Tomlins said “To have Darryl and Jason again commit to leading our representative football teams is extremely exciting for the League, and provides us a great opportunity to continue to build on the significant success and momentum gathered throughout the 2019 Inter League program.”
“Consistency is an important ingredient for continued Inter League success and both Darryl and Jason have demonstrated over several years that they can offer great enthusiasm, professionalism and structure to our program.”
“Both coaches possess the ability to entice the best players in our League to participate in representative football and are continuing to develop a strong culture and sense of pride in playing for the Bendigo FNL jumper.”
“As we prepare for our tough and respected opponent, after the slight changes to the AFL Vic representative program, we are thrilled that the Ballarat FNL shared our enthusiasm to re-ignite our rivalry in 2020 and we are supremely confident both Darryl and Jason possess the required skillset and extensive knowledge to again deliver success for the Bendigo FNL”.
Workforce XS will continue their long-standing association with the BFNL representative teams, once again being confirmed as the major sponsor of all competing BFNL Inter League teams in 2020.
Further announcements will be made regarding the appointment of 2020 BFNL Netball and Football Assistant coaches in the coming weeks.
