BFNL Round 10 A Grade Netball Preview

VICTORIOUS in all seven matches this Bendigo Football Netball League season, Sandhurst faces a danger game in this Saturday’s A-grade netball match at Golden Square.

The clash between two of the league’s greatest rivals will be a highlight of the 11th round.

Both line-ups had a bye last weekend, but several stars were involved in Association championships at open or 17-under level.

Although the ladder leaders will start favorite, Sandhurst will be wary of an opponent that won its latest hit-out at Gisborne by three goals.

Golden Square overcome a spate of injuries and unavailability to score a much-needed win in the ninth round.

The blue and gold was helped by the return of Gabe Richards, Andrea and Kelly Wilson to the line-up as the Bendigo Lady Braves had a bye in the South East Australia Basketball League.

A key player for Bendigo’s 17-under team at last Sunday’s Association championship finals, Bree Heiden is one of several talented youngsters in the Golden Square squad.

Although it has home-court advantage, Golden Square will be hard-pressed to hold a talented Sandhurst team in every quarter.

In seven matches, Sandhurst has the best attack, 442 goals, and defence, 282.

The maroon and blue started this season with a 34-goal win against Golden Square.

The margin is likely to be a lot closer this time, but Sandhurst’s unbeaten run should roll on.

Level on points, Kangaroo Flat and Gisborne meet in a crucial match at Dower Park.

The Roos marked win number four as they beat Strathfieldsaye by 40 goals last Saturday.

Gisborne struck back from defeat at home the previous round to beat South Bendigo by 25 goals on the QEO court.

A Gisborne victory on the Roos court would make it extremely difficult for their opponents to move into the top three.

In round one, Gisborne beat the Flat by 13 goals.

Plenty at stake in what should be a great contest.

Home-crowd support may be enough for the Flat to take the points.

Strathfieldsaye Storm faces Eaglehawk at Tannery Lane.

The second-placed Hawks will be eyeing a chance to lift their percentage following last week’s 32-goal win at Maryborough’s Princes Park.

Maryborough and South Bendigo have the bye as they are drawn to play Castlemaine and Kyneton respectively.

A-grade netball ladder:

Sandhurst 7 won, 0 lost, 36 points, 156 per cent; Eaglehawk 6, 1, 32, 140; Gisborne 4, 3, 24, 134; Kangaroo Flat 4, 3, 24, 127; Golden Square 4, 3, 24, 87; Maryborough 2, 5, 16, 77; South Bendigo 1, 6, 12, 79; Strathfieldsaye 0, 7, 8, 50.

Points awarded for forfeit by Castlemaine and Kyneton.
