A family milestone for Melinda & Maddy Keighran
This Saturday will see Melinda Keighran coach her 150th game for Golden Square Football Netball Club. A milestone that will be shared with her daughter Maddy Keighran who also plays her 150th game for the club.
Melinda has been a coaching stalwart at the club commencing her coaching when she took on the role of coaching B grade and B res teams. Besides the 2016 season when Melinda took a season off coaching at Square, she has coached across B grade, B res & 17 & U grades for seven seasons, in which every side she has coached has featured in finals.
It’s no doubt that coaching the 17& U team has been Melinda’s passion at Square, a team which she has coached in four of the last five seasons. Melinda’s passion and connection with the 17 & U netballers has also seen her appointed as BFNL coach for the last four seasons. Melinda is renowned for her ability to bond a team together both on and off the court and she takes pride in making sure all the girls feel comfortable in their team environment.
Maddy commenced her playing career at Golden Square in 2012 starting in the 17 & U team coached by Kathryn Gilmore and Maddy has progressed through the ranks playing in every grade of netball for the club with this season being rewarded with a position by in Agrade by coach Kendyl Hopley.
Maddy is a versatile player who can play in multiple positions across the court. An accurate goaler, who has a fantastic work ethic and leap, Maddy can also be swung into wing defence where her speed, fitness and agility are a great asset to the A grade team. Maddy received the Coaches award in 2015 from coaches Lucy Morcom & Meg Gilbert, and the coaches award in 2018 from Ares coach Jody Richards. Maddy has played in two Grand finals for Square but is still chasing that elusive Premiership win.
Congratulations to both Melinda & Maddy on achieving this fantastic milestone, made even more special by you both celebrating on the same day. Both are valuable contributors on and off the court with Melinda served on the committee for a couple of years was awarded best club person in 2014, with Maddy heavily involved in the social committee over the last few years.
