Cameron Skinner 300 games

This Saturday afternoon Cameron Skinner will play his 300th senior football match for the Maryborough Magpies.  Cameron is the current games record holder for his beloved Magpies and will become the first player in the clubs history to reach the 300 game mark.

Cameron played with the Maryborough Junior Football Club and progressed to the Maryborough Under 18’s.  In 1995 he had a somewhat controversial year in the Maryborough Reserves.  The following year Cameron stepped out for his first senior match in Round 1 1996 against South Bendigo.  It didn’t take Cameron long to establish himself as a solid senior player when, in only his second senior game v Eaglehawk, he kicked 6 goals.  Initially Cam played as a forward kicking 40 odd goals in his first season, but it is down in defence where Cameron has stood tall and forged his long career.   Cameron has made zoning of his opponent an art form.

Cameron’s longevity is testament to his natural fitness and durability.  Cameron has managed to play every game of the year in 11 different seasons.  He played 121 consecutive games from round 15 1997 to round 12 2004.  Cam has played in 14 finals and kicked 185 career goals.

The Maryborough team of the mid 1990’s that Cameron stepped into was a very successful team that regularly played finals football.  It wasn’t long before the hard work payed off, with Cameron being a part of the back to back premiership teams of 1998 and 1999, which ranks as Cameron greatest football highlight.

Having played at the club for 20 years Cameron rates Geoff Macilwain, Jamie Bond, Matthew Aston, and Brendan Tranter as some of the best players he has played with.  Playing on some of the greats of the Bendigo Footy League has also been a highlight with Derrick Filo, Steven Oliver, Steven Reaper, David Lancaster, Luke Saunders rated as some of the best players he has played against

Cameron is the true clubman who is hardworking, committed and loyal to the club he loves.  Cameron was made a life member of the Maryborough Football netball club in 2010 joining his Grandfather Charlie Williams on the honour board.  Off field Cameron has always been one to put up his hand and help out the club, with whatever was needed.   Cameron has long been in charge of club merchandise and also been involved on social committees.

Saturday will see Cameron run out with his 3 sons Jack, Billy and Max who we hope will be future stars for the Maryborough Magpies.  His wife Cindy, proud parents Eddie and Di, brother Brent and Grandfather Charlie will all be cheering him on.  All the players, committee and supporters wish Cameron all the best for Saturday, well done Skin!

Glenn Daly play 100th Senior Game

on .

Glenn Daly will play his 100th senior game on Saturday against Kangaroo Flat.

He played his first senior game against Gisborne in 2005.  Glenn has played in 16 finals including two runners up, 2 preliminary finals and 2 elimination finals.

Glenn is a product of the Eaglehawk juniors and has mainly played in defence.  He is a key cog in the team never gives up.

Glenn is the only player in Eaglehawk's history to have won the George Ilsley, Alan Williams and Darren Thompson Medals which are awarded to the Best and Fairest in seniors, reserves and U18's.

All at the borough are proud of Glenn and thankful that he has played all his
footy at Eaglehawk.
